Premier
The Honourable Anna Bligh
BILLS FOR INTRODUCTION IN PARLIAMENT THIS WEEK
For Parliamentary Week beginning Tuesday 25 November 2008
Premier Anna Bligh said today that the following Bills will be introduced as part of the Government’s legislative program this week.
Planning (Urban Encroachment – Milton Brewery) Bill: Deputy Premier
The Bill will protect current operations at the XXXX Brewery from air, noise and lighting complaints by residents who move into new high density developments in the area.
The legislation will not affect residents already coexisting with the brewery and does not in any way effect the brewery’s legal requirements to comply with its Environmental Protection Act licence, or liability for any physical or personal damage if there was an incident.
Corrective Services (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill: Minister Spence
The Bill addresses concerns by some victims of crime that offenders may profit by selling art work.
It limits the amount of money that can be held in prisoner trust accounts, and extends the time period in which the Parole Boards have to make a decision from 120 days to 180 days.
It also abolishes resettlement and re-integration leave.
Additionally, it repeals an obsolete piece of sporting legislation.
Property Law and Another Act Amendment Bill: Minister Shine
The Bill completes the referral of power to the Commonwealth in respect of de facto property rights as the result of the breakdown of a relationship.
This gives de facto couples the same rights as married couples in property settlements after relationship breakdown, as far as is practicable.
