Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Ten Tenors hit right note with German tourists
The majestic voices of Queensland’s Ten Tenors are being used to draw German visitors to Queensland, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said today.
To coincide with the Brisbane-based group’s 2008/2009 tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Tourism Queensland, in conjunction with Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Qantas and German wholesaler Boomerang Reisen have pooled resources to promote Queensland destinations to more than two million Germans.
“Our newspaper marketing includes a competition offering German readers the chance to win ten tickets to the concert in Trier, Germany on 21 November,” Ms Boyle said.
“Similar promotions are planned across Germany with radio stations.”
Ms Boyle said a booth would also be set up outside the Trier concert hall, for fans of the Ten Tenors to view information on holiday packages to Queensland.
“Boomerang Reisen has also launched a special Queensland journey package – On the Footsteps of the Ten Tenors to entice concert-goers to visit the homeland of the performers,” she said.
Ms Boyle said the Ten Tenors – who originated in Brisbane – were a well-established touring favourite with German audiences.
“The Ten Tenors have been touring internationally for a number of years and are an incredibly popular act in Germany,” she said.
“We are fortunate to be able to link tourism opportunities for Queensland to such a successful group.
“In the current economic climate it is vital that we make the most out of every tourism opportunity.”
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Chief Executive Officer, Rob Giason said Tropical North Queensland welcomed 45,000 German holiday visitors annually.
“The outstanding natural environment is one of the major drawcards for these visitors,” he said.
“TTNQ is delighted to partner with Tourism Queensland and Qantas in this initiative which is part of a worldwide program designed to raise the profile of Tropical North Queensland and generate sales, to the region with Qantas as the preferred airline.”
