QBUILD HELPS WITH CLEAN UP AFTER IPSWICH AND BRISBANE STORM

QBuild staff have visited over a thousand private residences in the north western suburbs of Brisbane to help with repairs, Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said today.

Mr Schwarten said QBuild was now also assisting with the clean up in Ipswich after another storm cell developed in the Darling Downs last night bringing heavy rainfalls to areas including Rosewood and Bundamba.

“QBuild has allocated all of its available resources to the storm and flood response efforts,” Mr Schwarten said.

“Workers from QBuild are conducting assessments of the latest damage which has been predominantly caused by rainwater entry or localised flooding.

“Brassall State School has sustained damage from localised flooding and a ceiling has collapsed under the weight of rainwater in a teaching block at Mabel Park State School.

“QBuild is coordinating clean up operations in cooperation with school and health authorities.”

Mr Schwarten said 42 QBuild staff were continuing to assist State Emergency Services to make temporary repairs to private residences around Waterworks and Settlement Roads in The Gap.

“Since Tuesday, QBuild crews have visited 1,049 private residences around The Gap and have made a range of interim repairs, including extensive tarping of 74 homes,” he said.

“The repairs have generally included patching small holes in roofs and the cutting and stacking of trees and vegetation around homes.

“QBuild is continuing to assist the Department of Communities to maintain their Community Recovery One Stop Shop at the Church Hall on Firhill Street Ashgrove.”

The Department of Communities is currently making arrangements for additional community recovery centres to service the Ipswich and Moreton Bay regional Council areas.

Mr Schwarten praised QBuild for their dedication to the recovery efforts.

“With more storms predicted tonight and into next week, QBuild will maintain a level of staff over the weekend in case storm damage causes any further damage.

“QBuild is doing everything they can to assist with the clean up.”
