RUGBY LEAGUE FANS ASKED TO DIG DEEP FOR RELIEF APPEAL FUND

Those attending the Rugby League World Cup final at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday night are encouraged to dig deep for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal Fund.

Premier Anna Bligh today advised that staff with collection tins will be positioned at entrances to Suncorp Stadium.

“We are getting out there on Saturday night and asking that you open your hearts and your pockets to help Queenslanders get back on track.

“I encourage those attending—Queenslanders, interstate and international visitors—to make a donation and help those who bore the brunt of the storm’s fury.

“A sell out crowd is expected at the Australia vs New Zealand final on Saturday night.

“If 50,000 people donate just one dollar, this would mean an additional $50,000 for the Appeal.

“This amount of money would really be appreciated by South East Queenslanders who have had their lives turned upside down.

“Already we have nearly 300 people make donations and $774,279 has been pledged. Westpac and the Commonwealth have offered $100,000 each and Suncorp $50,000.

“No donation is too small and every dollar will help victims.

“Let’s continue the Queenslander reputation for chipping-in and helping a mate in need,” she said.

The Premier launched the appeal with a $500,000 donation from the Queensland Government on Tuesday.

“Donations can also be made to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal Fund at any of the big four banks (Commonwealth, Westpac, NAB, and ANZ) and at Suncorp Metway and the Bank of Queensland.

“Cheques can be made out to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal Fund.

“Or donors can contact the Smart Services Queensland Call Centre on 1800 173 349 with their credit card details. This line will be open 24 hours a day.

Ms Bligh said the appeal would remain open for at least three months.
