MALE PERSON POSING AS DEPARTMENTAL STAFF MEMBER IN THE LABRADOR AREA

Housing Minister Robert Schwarten has today warned social housing tenants on the Gold Coast to be alert of a man posing as a Department of Housing employee to get access to their dwelling.

“The Department of Housing has been advised by the Queensland Police Service that a man has gained access to a Department of Housing property in Labrador by falsely claiming to be a departmental staff member undertaking electrical inspections,” Mr Schwarten said.

“Department officers wishing to gain access to social housing properties must show official staff identification prior to entering a property.

“In the case that this identification is not offered or displayed, tenants and residents should ask to see this identification. Permission to enter the property should not be granted until this official identification has been sighted.”

Anyone in the Labrador or wider Gold Coast area approached by a person claiming to be a Department of Housing staff member but unwilling to provide identification, or if they have experienced a situation over the past few days where this has occurred, are advised to contact their local police station and the Department of Housing area office.
