Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today acknowledged the significant contribution to local government made by outgoing Australian Local Government Association president Cr Paul Bell.
“Paul has just concluded a four-year term as president of local government’s national body after serving two two-year terms and under its constitution, he was ineligible to stand again,” Mr Pitt said.
“In his role at ALGA, Paul has successfully represented the interests of councils within Australia at the federal level, both as president and, before that, as vice-president.
“He’s shouldered this role in addition to his current duties as president of the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) and deputy mayor for Central Highlands Regional Council.”
Cr Bell has been a councillor for his home town of Emerald since 1985 and enjoys a long and distinguished career in the local government sector. His contribution was recognised at the highest level with his appointment to the Order of Australia in January 2005.
“Paul has been a faithful servant to local government throughout the years and still remains an important voice for Queensland councils, large and small,” Mr Pitt said.
“I have no doubt that Paul will continue to play a key role in helping to build a strong local government system in this state.
“I look forward to a continued working partnership with him and congratulate him on all he has achieved with the ALGA.”
