The Honourable Robert Schwarten
MERRIMAC HIGH, MERRIMAC AND BROADBEACH STATE SCHOOLS SHARE IN SPECIAL MAINTENANCE FUNDING
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced close to $70,000 in funding for maintenance work at Merrimac State High School, Merrimac State School and Broadbeach State School.
Mr Schwarten said a recent inspection of the schools by QBuild officers identified the need for the work.
“Suspended ceiling tiles and grid system in classroom N1 of Block N at Merrimac High School will be replaced at a cost of more than $18,000,” Mr Schwarten said.
“More than $40,000 will go towards the replacement of the roof and associated works to Block D at Merrimac State School and deteriorated capping and flashings will be replaced to Block C at Broadbeach State School at a cost of $12,000.”
Mr Schwarten said the work would be completed as soon as possible with every effort being made to minimise disruption to classes.
“One of the Bligh Government’s ambitions for Tomorrow’s Queensland is that our state is smarter,” he said.
“Properly maintaining schools will certainly go a long way in helping to achieve that goal.
“I am delighted that funding from the Department of Public Works’ emergency maintenance fund is available to enable these projects to be completed.
“The emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and specifically to undertake projects that arose in the course of the year or that were unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost.”
QBuild, the State Government’s construction and maintenance division, will manage the projects.
