Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Twenty-five Queensland tourism operators are getting ready to take their promotional pitch to Europe later this month as part of a major trade mission for the State, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said.
Ms Boyle said Tourism Queensland’s fifth annual Queensland on Tour would bring the tourism operators together with more than 300 European travel agents, wholesalers, booking staff, product managers and journalists.
“Arriving in Frankfurt, Germany on 25 November the group will take part in workshop events in Frankfurt and Amsterdam before meeting with French wholesalers for a luncheon in Paris on 28 November,” Ms Boyle said.
“They will also participate in workshops and media luncheons in Zurich and Munich as well as a dinner with key Italian wholesalers in Milan before returning back to Queensland, or in some cases, travelling on to take part in the Queensland on Tour through the UK and Scandinavia on 4 December.”
Ms Boyle said the roadshow would increase the European travel industry’s awareness of Queensland destinations and raise the profile of Queensland’s tourism product suppliers.
“Specific Queensland marketing campaigns will be discussed at the workshops across Europe – including the Reef to Outback campaign for the Capricorn region,” she said.
“The Reef to Outback - An Undiscovered Australian Journey campaign links two of Australia’s most iconic natural attractions - the World Heritage-listed wonders of the Great Barrier Reef with the wide open spaces of the magnificent Queensland Outback by taking a journey through the uncrowded and not-so-well known hidden treasures where Australian’s like to live and take holidays.
“As well as campaign initiatives for the seven regions across Queensland, the workshops will feature presentations by special guest, world-renowned photographer Peter Meyer.
“Peter works on Fraser Island as a ranger for Kingfisher Bay Resort. Fraser Island is Peter’s muse – and the images of nature he has taken have captured the imagination of people across the globe.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Peter’s calibre taking part in this vital trade mission.”
* Queensland tourism businesses and regional tourist organisations who are taking part in this trade mission include Port Douglas Peninsula Boutique Hotel, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Ocean Spirit Cruises, Quicksilver Connections, Townsville Enterprise, Coral Sea Resort, Cruise Whitsundays, Fraser Island company, Kingfisher Bay Resort, Tourism Sunshine Coast, Tourism Noosa, Brisbane Marketing and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Airline partners for Queensland on Tour, Europe are Etihad Airways, Qantas and Singapore Airlines.
