Queensland filmmaker success at 2008 IF Awards

Arts Minister Rod Welford has congratulated all Queensland winners of Inside Film (IF) Awards following last night’s star-studded ceremony on the Gold Coast.

“Queensland filmmakers and productions performed very well at this year’s awards, taking out six awards overall,” Mr Welford said

“The IF Awards are the people's choice awards for Australian films, and in 2008 the event celebrated 10 years of championing the local industry and rewarding home-grown creative talent.

“I am thrilled to see Queensland productions and our talented local filmmakers gaining the recognition they so richly deserve.”

Queensland feature film Unfinished Sky, which was made with production funding from the Pacific Film and Television Commission (PFTC), scooped the pool to take out four IF Awards from a possible eight nominations, including best direction for director Peter Duncan and best actress for Dutch actress Monic Hendrickx.

“New Holland Pictures' feature film Unfinished Sky dominated the IF Awards across all facets of production and is a prime example of the exceptional quality of locally-generated filmmaking underway across Queensland,” Mr Welford said.

“This film was a labour of love for so many talented Queenslanders and it seems to have really hit a nerve with Australian and global audiences.”

Other winners include the documentary Burning Season and the animation short The Covenant of Mr Kasch.

The 10th annual IF Awards ceremony was held last night (13 November) at Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort. The event capped off a week of screen industry events on the Gold Coast, including the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) annual conference and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

The IF Awards ceremony will be replayed on SHOWTIME on Tuesday 18 November and Wednesday 19 November.
