Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Public comment has been invited on a draft plan for the upgrade of a three-kilometre section of the Gateway Motorway that includes the Nudgee Road interchange.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and Queensland Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today unveiled the draft plan, which includes the upgrade of the next section of the Gateway Motorway, north of the Gateway Upgrade Project.
"One of the reasons we are planning to upgrade this section of the motorway is in direct response to community feedback received during stage one of the planning study.," Mr Albanese said.
“A recurring response in the feedback received was the need to improve current traffic flows on the Gateway Motorway, including through the Nudgee area.
"The community has made a vital contribution to this planning study to date, and now we are asking for feedback on the proposed layout for this section of the motorway to ensure it meets the community’s needs.
“This planning study is part of the Australian Government’s $23 million commitment to Queensland to tackle urban congestion”
Mr Pitt urged local residents to visit the public displays and provide their comments on a project designed to ease congestion and improve road safety at the Nudgee Road Interchange.
"We are currently in stage two of the Gateway Motorway North Planning Study and the team is continuing to develop upgrade options for the remaining section of the motorway from Nudgee to the Bruce Highway," Mr Pitt said.
“The options will be presented to the community for comment in early to mid 2009.
"Members of the study team will be available to take public feedback at various local shopping centres between November 13 and November 29 and the community can also visit unstaffed displays at local libraries until December 6.” (See further details below)
