Ministers to meet in Melbourne over future policies, funding

Communities and Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr is in Melbourne for national Ministerial Conferences.

“Through the Rudd Government partnership, we have an opportunity to get funding right in Disability Services for the first time,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“Queensland’s allocation of federal funding has traditionally been negatively disproportionate – we have 20 per cent of the population yet we received only 17 per cent of funding under the Howard Government,” she said.

“I will be taking this up with my parliamentary colleagues, again and again and again, as we map out initiatives to make life better for Australians and for Queenslanders.”

Among issues to be discussed at the meetings on Friday include models of care for young people with disabilities who may be in aged care, funding and indexation.

“We need to get the funding right, with indexation, to ensure we can deliver the best possible levels of care and quality of life for Queenslanders with a disability, their families and carers.”
