Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Load limits lifted on South Burnett bridges
Four bridges along Kingaroy-Burrandowan Road have had their load limits lifted today (6 November) following extensive bridge rehabilitation and strengthening works.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the four bridges – Boyne River Wiedens, Ironpot Creek, Sandy Creek and Boyne River – were now back to full operation.
"The safety of all road users is Main Roads’ number one priority, so we regularly undertake a rigorous assessment procedure on all bridges on the state-controlled road network,” Mr Pitt said.
“Routine inspections identified the need for work to strengthen four bridges along Kingaroy-Burrandowan Road and replace the older timber components.
“In response to feedback from the community and regular users of these bridges, the rehabilitation works were prioritised and have now been completed in just two months.
“The bridges remained open to general traffic in an effort to reduce travel disruption as much as possible.
"With the load limits now lifted, all traffic will be able to resume travelling across the bridges as normal, including heavy vehicles.”
Mr Pitt said Main Roads would now resume works on the Redbank Creek Bridge rehabilitation project.
"The works on Redbank Creek Bridge were temporarily suspended in order to accommodate the priority works on Kingaroy-Burrandowan Road,” he said.
“Now these works are completed, work will resume on Redbank Creek Bridge this week.”
Work is expected to be completed by Christmas 2008, weather permitting.
