Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Bridge naming ceremony honours popular Moura local
The hard work and commitment of councillor and long-time Moura resident Maureen Clancy was recognised today with the naming of the Kianga Creek bridge in her honour.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said Cr Clancy had always been a strong advocate of upgrading the bridge located on the Dawson Highway, east of Moura.
"Cr Clancy was a key lobbyist leading to the construction in 2006 of the new high-level concrete bridge over Kianga Creek," Mr Pitt said.
"I am pleased to have been able to recognise her campaigning efforts in naming the bridge after her, as proposed by the Banana Shire Council.
“This bridge now stands in recognition of Cr Clancy’s efforts to help provide flood immunity to the Dawson Highway and keep the residents of Moura connected.”
Member for Fitzroy Jim Pearce said Cr Clancy had made a significant contribution to the local community over the last 32 years as a Moura resident, and for the last 14 years as a councillor of Banana Shire Council.
“Cr Clancy has been heavily involved in various associations and committees in Moura including the Moura Chamber of Commerce, Dawson Valley Development Association, Banana District Regional Health Council and Moura Child Care Centre,” Mr Pearce said.
"As an active member of the community, Cr Clancy worked hard to obtain Australian Government funding for the Moura Long Day Care Centre, which is a vital service for local families.
"Cr Clancy's dedication for projects like this and the support displayed for the construction of the Kianga Creek Bridge are to be congratulated.”
Mr Pearce said it was fitting to recognise Cr Clancy in this way, honouring her achievements, contribution and commitment to the community over the years.
"The Moura community has been very supportive of the proposal to name the bridge in her honour," Mr Pearce said.
