Refurbished Mudgeeraba police station helps cater for local growth

The refurbished Mudgeeraba Police Station was officially opened today by Police Minister Judy Spence.

Ms Spence said the area encompassed by the Mudgeeraba police division had become a rapidly growing hub of business and residential growth on the Gold Coast.

“Today’s opening of the refurbished Mudgeeraba Police Station is a reflection of this growth and the Government’s continued commitment to local residents and businesses,” Ms Spence said.

“The State Government has spent almost $1.5 million on this refurbishment which will meet the needs of police and the community now and into the future.

“This station, built in consultation with operational police, will allow for continued service delivery to the Mudgeeraba community - 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year,” she said.

The refurbished police station will be responsible for operations in the Mudgeeraba police division which includes the suburbs of Mudgeeraba, Robina, Reedy Creek, Worongary, Merrimac and Springbrook.

Mudgeeraba Police Station serves also as the Gold Coast District’s Police Training and Education Facility which will cater for the training of all QPS staff within the Gold Coast District.

Member for Mudgeeraba, Di Reilly, welcomed the boost to policing in her electorate – one of Queensland’s fastest growing areas.

“This major refurbishment highlights the Bligh Government’s commitment to providing the growing Mudgeeraba community with quality services and facilities.

“Police in this area do an excellent job of protecting the community and fighting crime, and this significant upgrade to their station will ensure they can continue their great work.”

Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said the Queensland Police Service was dedicated to excellence and committed to working in partnership with the people of Queensland to enhance the safety and security of the community.

“To fulfil this commitment we need to properly equip our members with the infrastructure required to move forward in harmony with the needs of the community.

“The refurbished Mudgeeraba Police Station is indicative of the commitment the Queensland Police Service makes to the people of Queensland.

“It will give police officers the resources and infrastructure to continue to conduct their duties at an optimal level and to cope with future demographic changes,” Commissioner Atkinson said.
