Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Regional and rural communities recognised at awards

The winners of the Queensland Regional Achievement and Community Awards will be announced next week at a gala awards presentation dinner in Mackay.

Main Roads and Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the 21 finalists across seven categories showed the incredible work and community spirit shown by individuals and organisations in regional and rural Queensland.

"The awards are a great way to acknowledge the hard work and strength of our rural and regional communities as they work to build a better future," Mr Pitt said.

“The awards highlight success stories in business, employment, tourism, culture, environment and community service that are helping to build future prosperity in regional and rural communities across Queensland.”

Prizes include a hand-crafted glass trophy for each category winner, a share of $12,500 in Commonwealth Bank AwardSaver accounts and airtime packages on Southern Cross Television.

Mr Pitt will present one of the seven category winners with the Minister’s Special Commendation Award, to acknowledge their hard work and commitment to their community.
