Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Caught out: LNP supported the Bligh Government’s Cairns Hospital Redevelopment
The Liberal National Party has been caught out in an embarrassing back flip on their pledge to build a new hospital for Cairns.
In a press release dated April 15 Mr Springborg supported the Bligh Government’s proposal to redevelop Cairns hospital, saying “this is a great outcome for regional Queenslanders”.
The Opposition leader also pledged the Coalition would honour the Bligh Government’s announcements should they win government at the next election.
Moreover in the same release his shadow Health Minister John-Paul Langbroek went even further “a massive refurbishment of Cairns and Mackay hospitals would deliver better clinical outcomes for patients”.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson said Mr Springborg had been caught out misleading the people of Cairns.
“Mr Springborg says one thing in Brisbane and another thing in Cairns.
“Now the Opposition Leader is back flipping on his position by not only claiming he will build an entirely new hospital in just five years but also claiming he can do it for $450 million.
“The Liberal National Party says they are ready to deliver now but then says they will throw out the extensive planning already done and go back to the drawing board.
“The reality is the only thing the Opposition has ever delivered for the people of Cairns is a car park.
Mr Robertson said the Liberal National Party had shown its true colours in the past week telling untruths to the people.
“I challenge Mr Springborg to answer the question: was he misleading the people of Cairns then, or is he misleading them now?
Ends.
