Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Tourism Queensland to capitalise on drop in dollar
A new domestic tourism marketing campaign is underway to encourage Australians to holiday in Queensland while the Australian dollar weakens, and the financial climate, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle announced today.
“Starting last weekend Tourism Queensland is encouraging Aussies to take an affordable holiday ‘at home’ in Queensland,” Ms Boyle said.
“Print ads in major Sydney and Melbourne newspapers are letting families and couples know they can stretch their holiday dollar further by coming to Queensland.
“Tourism Queensland is working in partnership with Jetstar on the campaign, using tag lines such as - ‘Where a diving dollar won’t sink your holiday’ and ‘Where you can still afford to splash out’.
“These ads will be backed up by extensive promotions on the Queensland Holidays website.”
Ms Boyle said the drop in the value of the Australian dollar would undoubtedly make Australians think twice about holidaying overseas and presented opportunities for Queensland.
“The challenge now is to get the message out to potential visitors and work with the tourism industry to make the most of this opportunity,” she said.
“The really good news is that the stock market or value of the aussie dollar doesn’t affect the fish of the Great Barrier Reef, the surf beaches of the southeast and the trees in the rainforest!”
