Queensland's emerging artists on show at Roma
The Roma community will have the chance to see the work of Queensland’s most talented art students when the Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art 2007 – 2008 Touring Exhibition opens at the Roma on Bungil Gallerytoday (Saturday 25 October).
Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts, Rod Welford, said the touring exhibition features more than 50 artworks produced in 2006 by students in state and non-state schools throughout Queensland.
“The exhibition showcases the outstanding work of senior visual art students and the high standard of visual arts programs in Queensland secondary schools,” Mr Welford said.
“Local students and teachers will have the opportunity to view the very best works of talented Queensland students.
“The exhibition encourages students to achieve to a high standard and promotes visual arts in schools and their wider communities.”
The Roma on Bungil Galleryis one of 10 regional venues to host the exhibition.
Gallery Management Committee Chairman Mr Ian Galloway said the touring exhibition was of an exceptionally high standard.
“These talented young artists have drawn on their personal experiences to create a series of diverse and outstanding works, including paintings, prints, ceramics, sculpture, installation and digital works,” he said.
“The exhibition is a creative expression of the issues that are important to young people, and their artistic abilities will undoubtedly inspire other students and broader audiences.”
The Roma on Bungil Gallerywill host the exhibition until Sunday 23 November 2008.
