ENERGEX Move-a-thon gets Queensland students moving

Prep to Year 7 classes from 170 schools throughout Queensland leaped at the chance to get moving with the ENERGEX Move-a-thon.

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford congratulated all participants in the ENERGEX Move-a-thon which involved classes recording their physical activity outside of school hours over a six-week period.

“Schools and students embraced the opportunity to show their classmates all the physical activity they do,” Mr Welford said.

“More than 280 Prep to Year 7 classes at 170 schools entered into the draw.

“I’m sure the students who participated encouraged their whole family to get in on the fun.

“The ENERGEX Move-a-thon is part of the Year of Physical Activity and supports the implementation of our Smart Moves strategy.

"Students who are physically active are also mentally active with improved school-based performances."

Mr Welford said state primary school students were already getting 30 minutes of physical exercise every day at school through Smart Moves.

"Kids love to be active and they’ll have a great sense of achievement when they realise just how active they’ve been and how much fun they’ve had through the ENERGEX Move-a-thon," he said.

Mr Welford said classes which achieved 100 per cent participation went into the draw for some great prizes.

The winning schools are listed below.
