SES to storm Southbank for season launch

SES members across Brisbane will converge on Streets Beach at Southbank on Sunday morning to help launch the 2008 storm season campaign.

Minister for Emergency Services Neil Roberts said the aim of the launch is to prepare people for the possibility of severe storm in the months to come so they don’t get caught out.

“Storms can be quite frightening for people who aren’t prepared or well equipped,” he said.

“By taking precautionary measures before a storm hits, people can minimise the impact the event has on their home and family.”

Storm season was kicked off with the Minister, SES volunteers and the major sponsor of the SES, NRMA Insurance, handing out glove packs to assist people with the preparation of their properties.

NRMA Insurance Queensland State Manager Brett Robinson said the SES and NRMA work hand in hand in times of emergency.

“We and the SES both recognise, the quicker residents get the right help, the quicker communities can get back on their feet.”

Media are invited to Sunday’s launch which will be held at the main entrance to Streets Beach at Southbank at 10am.
