Awards highlight diversity of Queensland’s leading exporters
The diversity of Queensland’s export industries and the people who contribute to them were on show tonight at the gala presentation of the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Premier of Queensland Anna Bligh said that she continued to be impressed by the drive and innovative approach of Queensland’s export businesses to target new markets and the global opportunities for the State.
“The list of winners and finalists of tonight’s 19th annual Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards clearly illustrates the diversity and adaptability of Queensland businesses which are taking risks and succeeding in overseas markets,” Ms Bligh said.
“Our winners and finalists include film producers, architecture and building services providers, information and communications technology enterprises and manufacturers of complex and technologically advanced equipment.
“We have everything from children’s clothing designers and manufacturers, to driver training providers, mining and minerals processing technology companies, whale watching and tourism businesses and highly efficient nut, seed and beef growers, processors and marketers.
“There is no doubt that Queensland’s export industries, and the individual businesses and people that contribute to them, are growing and becoming more innovative. These awards thank them for their contribution to the State’s communities and economy.
“The Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards are a highlight of Queensland Export Week and have a record of success in recognising the achievements and capabilities of the State’s export businesses and industries,” Ms Bligh said.
“The program gives our outstanding exporters due recognition, and acknowledges the vital contribution exporting makes to Queensland in terms of economic contribution and contributing helping improve the lifestyles of all Queenslanders.
“I congratulate all of the winners and finalists in the Awards in 2008, and offer my particular congratulations to our Queensland Exporter of the Year Award winner, Xstrata Technology,” she said.
Tonight’s winners go on to compete for a national Export Award in Melbourne on 5 December.
