Exports go nuts - Kingaroy icon an export success
Premier of Queensland Anna Bligh has praised Kingaroy-based Peanut Company of Australia (PCA) for its exporting efforts and successes over the past year.
Following PCA’s recent success in winning the Queensland Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Export Excellence Award, Ms Bligh named PCA as a finalist in the Agribusiness category of the 2008 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards that were presented tonight (16 October) at a gala event in Brisbane.
“PCA has been a mainstay business and employer in the South Burnett region since 1924 and deserves recognition for more than 20 years of exporting success,” Ms Bligh said.
“As well as processing top-quality Queensland-grown peanuts to produce various peanut flavours, peanut paste and oil products, the company has a long-established, broader involvement in the Australian peanut industry.
“PCA is involved with all aspects of the peanut processing chain from growing seed and developing new peanut crop varieties, to drying and shelling, grading, blanching, sorting, roasting and granulating the final product.
“The company’s current export markets are Japan and New Zealand, with some other emerging markets in Asia and Europe. Their continued strong investment in expanding peanut supply to their Kingaroy processing plant to keep up with growing demand, will undoubtedly see exports continue to increase.
Minister for Trade John Mickel praised PCA for their achievement “The percentage of company revenue being delivered through sales in PCA’s export markets has been increasing in recent years due to significant investment by the company in improved technology and increasing production, together with a strong commitment to exceptional quality and customer service.
“Kingaroy and the South Burnett region has an enterprise to be proud of in PCA, and I congratulate them on their success tonight, and I look forward to hearing of further export successes in the future,” Mr Mickel said.
The Agribusiness category was won by Queensland-based beef supply chain company, Australian Agricultural Company (AAco). Toowoomba-based pecan and macadamia nut growing and processing company, Stahmann Farms, was named as a finalist in the Regional Exporter category.
