Tmba features at 2008 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards
Premier Anna Bligh has praised Toowoomba as one of Queensland’s most productive and successful exporting cities following the success of local businesses competing for the State’s top exporting honours.
Ms Bligh said that well-known Toowoomba businesses Russell Mineral Equipment, Pacific Seeds and Stahmann Farms had all achieved significant exporting success in the past year, and had received recognition in the list of winners and finalists in the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards announced tonight (16 October).
“Russell Mineral Equipment has again received an Export Award winner’s trophy in the Large Advanced Manufacturer category and will progress through to the national awards,” Ms Bligh said.
“Recognised as the world leader in grinding mill relining technology, RME's sales have grown by 400% in 4 years.
“RME's increasing proportion of exports have generated at least 140 new jobs and exporting contributed 79% of total company revenue in 2007/08.
“Contributing significantly to RME's success is the fact that their products are designed and manufactured in Toowoomba and sold directly to customers globally.
“The company’s impressive record of industry award success continues, with tonight’s award bringing the company’s total to 18. Russell Mineral Equipment won Queensland Regional Exporter of the Year in 2007, going on to win the Australian Export Award in the same category, repeating their success in 2001.
“On behalf of Queenslanders, I wish RME every success as the company moves on to compete in the national awards again in 2008,” Ms Bligh said.
Minister for Trade, John Mickel congratulated RME as well as Toowoomba agribusinesses Pacific Seeds and Stahmann Farms on being named as finalists in the Agribusiness and Regional Exporter categories respectively, all businesses have been supported by Trade Queensland.
“Pacific Seeds has a strong record of successfully exporting high quality crop seed. The company is a major employer in Toowoomba and has developed significant export markets in South America, Africa, the Asia Pacific region and the Middle East.
“Stahmann Farms is another significant employer in the production, processing and marketing of Australian grown pecan and macadamia nuts with major export markets in Europe, the US and Asia.
“I congratulate Toowoomba, and especially these three successful local exporting businesses on their achievement in the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards, and encourage all local firms to investigate the benefits of exporting to support their business growth,” Mr Mickel said.
