Brisbane-based Triasx, a designer and manufacturer of sophisticated radio frequency products for use in mobile telecommunication systems across the globe, has taken out the prestigious Dermot McManus Award at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards gala presentation.

The Dermot McManus Award is given in honour of the late Mr Dermot McManus, Queensland’s Agent-General and Trade Commissioner for Europe between1995 and 2000, for innovation in exporting to a particular priority market.

Premier Anna Bligh said the company had experienced huge export growth in the priority export market of Europe over the past year and boasted globally recognised clients.

“Triasx’s customers include globally recognised manufacturers of mobile phone systems including Ericsson, Siemens and others, and also network operators including Telstra, Vodafone and Optus in Australia and others overseas,” Ms Bligh said.

“The company’s specialised, high-tech products are used in antenna systems as part of mobile telephone base stations.

“In 2005 Triasx launched a portable test instrument capable of measuring passive intermodulation (PIM) in base stations. This invention continues to be a world first and is now the industry standard throughout Australia, USA and parts of Europe.

“The Triasx instrument enables accurate PIM readings at any remote location. Prior to this innovation, PIM was only measurable using lab equipment at manufacturing locations so there wasn’t a way to get a measurement at the base station itself.

“At any one time, Triasx has more than 10 new product development projects under way with most targeted at overseas markets.

“There is no doubt that the company’s export success in North America and more recently in Europe is a result of the technical leadership offered by this great Queensland company.”

Triasx’s product output is set to increase to meet a projected global mobile data traffic increase of around 1000 percent between 2007 and 2012.

Exports are fundamental to Triasx’s growth and typically more than 50 percent by value of the manufacturing output from the company’s Brisbane facility is for export customers. Exporting contributed 58 percent of total company revenue in 2007/08.

Other major export markets for Triasx include Africa, Israel and Asia. South America, Eastern Europe and India are targets for the future.
