Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Queensland seeks skilled workers from the United Kingdom
The Bligh Government is stepping up its efforts to attract skilled workers from the United Kingdom.
Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle said the Queensland Government would have a display stand at the Opportunities Australia Expos in Leeds (18-19 Oct) and London (25-26 Oct).
“Our stand will show Britons how Queensland is continuing to boom, despite the adverse global economic conditions,” Ms Boyle said.
“Thanks to our strong resource sector and diversified economy, we’ve been largely shielded from the brunt of the financial meltdown.
“On top of this we have a great quality of life, superb weather, excellent investment prospects and a wealth of career and employment opportunities – why wouldn’t you want to move to Queensland from the UK?
“Under the Bligh Government’s Q2 initiative we are looking to continue creating and growing a diverse strong economic future for our state – attracting more skilled workers to Queensland will put us one step closer to achieving that vision.”
Ms Boyle said the Government will also provide More Jobs, More Opportunities seminars for interested Britons.
“These seminars are always extremely popular at the Expos,” she said.
“We will be talking to people about possible skills matching opportunities and visa sponsorship options.
“From tropical Cairns in the North, to outback Mount Isa in the west, and the world-famous Gold Coast in the South-East – the message we want to send is that there are many wonderful places to progress your career in Queensland.”
