New Mapoon women honoured for dedication: Minister
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has today presented Certificates of Recognition to long-serving and dedicated community workers in New Mapoon.
“It is my pleasure to present these certificates to these outstanding women who have been working in Nai-Beguta Agama Aboriginal Corporation since its inception,” said the Minister.
“Mrs Josephine Lifu and Ms Margaret Mark first started work as volunteers at the newly established New Mapoon Women’s Group in May 1991.
“At the opening of the centre, Josephine and Margaret looked after 24 children, aged from new born babies to five-years-old.
“In late 1991, the New Mapoon Women’s Group received funding from the former Department of Family Services and ATSI Affairs under the Child Care program. That was when Josephine and Margaret became full-time staff of the Nai-Beguta Agama Aboriginal Corporation.
“They helped set up safe and supervised activities and care for the needs of children in the community.
“Today, Josephine and Margaret are Group Leaders in the New Mapoon Child Care Centre which I am delighted to be opening here today.
“They have been working throughout the last 16 years and continue to work to maintain and achieve better outcomes for children in the community. The dedication and long service of these two ladies is an outstanding achievement.
“My heartfelt congratulations goes to Josephine and Margaret. Your commitment and passion to serve the community deserves to be acknowledged.”
