Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Paul Lucas
WARWICK DEVELOPMENT "CALLED IN"
Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Paul Lucas has “called in” a development application in Warwick, that was previously approved by Southern Downs Regional Council.
The Deputy Premier said the development application would allow the expansion of industrial activity at Ogilvie and Glengallan Roads, near existing homes.
“The Southern Downs Regional Council approved the application, subject to conditions, even though its own expert town planners recommended it be refused because it was in conflict with the Warwick Planning Scheme,” said Mr Lucas.
“During the public notification period the Council received 69 properly made submissions all objecting to the proposed development citing a range of issues.
“People were concerned about industrial activity too close to existing houses and the impact this would have on residents.
“Other concerns raised were the non-compliance with the planning scheme and environmental impacts.
“The decision to call in this development application will allow me to reassess the application and make a final, binding decision,” Mr Lucas said.
Under the Integrated Planning Act 1997 the Planning Minister has the discretion to call in a development application on State interest grounds and decide the application in place of the relevant local government.
