Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence

Spence officially opens new Woodford Police Station

Police Minister Judy Spence today officially opened the new $1.1 million Woodford Police Station.

Ms Spence said: “This new station highlights the Bligh Government’s commitment to providing rural and regional communities with first-rate policing services.”

“The station is a huge asset for the community – allowing police to better serve the needs of Woodford’s 6,500 residents and businesses.

“The original Woodford Police Station was built 103 years ago – obviously the needs of modern police are vastly different.

“The new facilities include accommodation for general duties police, holding cells and a front counter, as well as a new Major Incident Room for use during any major investigation in the D’Aguilar area.

“This new station provides police with the modern and purpose-built facilities they require for policing in the 21st century.”

Ms Spence said the old Woodford Police Station, which had been a main feature in the town centre for a century, will not be lost to the district and has been given to the Woodford Show Society for possible use as a community venue.

“The old station was originally the combined court house and police station. When the court house closed the Caboolture Historical Society was given the furniture which is now displayed at their historical village,” Ms Spence said.

“Interestingly, the police station’s verandah was used by the Post and Telegraph Service while the officer’s residence was utilised as an isolation hospital in 1919 during an outbreak of pneumonic flu.

“It is important that we do not lose such iconic buildings in our communities, and I am pleased those involved in delivering this important project have been able to preserve a piece of history, while delivering modern facilities for our police.

“The Bligh Government will continue to work with local communities to ensure we provide the facilities and services they need as we move Towards Q2 – Tomorrow’s Queensland.”
