The Honourable Warren Pitt

Two Charters Towers organisations receive Blueprint funding

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today presented cheques to two Charters Towers community organisations that have been successful under the latest round of Blueprint for the Bush funding.

Mr Pitt said that between the two organisations, a total of $39,550 in Queensland Government funding would be provided towards offsetting the cost of important community projects.

“The government’s Blueprint for the Bush–Strengthening Rural Communities program offers grants to help rural communities develop and implement projects to improve community capacity, access to transport services and the image of rural areas,” Mr Pitt said.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that two Charters Towers organisations will receive almost $40,000 more through the next round of the Our Place, Our Future initiative.

“Our Place, Our Future aims to strengthen and enhance the relationships between rural and urban areas, as well as building the networks and support needed to attract and retain skilled workers.”

Mt Pitt said the Blueprint funding would provide:

• $20,000 for the Charters Towers Chamber of Commerce and Mining to develop a plan for the ongoing economic development of the Charters Towers region. This economic plan will identify specific projects and infrastructure required to provide the region with a diverse, stable and sustainable future

• $19,550 for the Rural Industry Training and Extension Limited (RITE) to develop a range of transferable skill sets for youth in Charters Towers and the Aboriginal community of Kowanyama. The project aims to match a student’s vocational preferences with those offered by local industry, as well as build the capacity of schools and other education institutions within their communities to offer appropriate training.

“The Bligh Government is strongly committed to building strong and sustainable communities across rural and remote Queensland,” Mr Pitt said.

"One of the Blueprint’s major goals is for communities to be viable and strong, so it is important that they have access to funding initiatives such as these.”
