Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Export Week turns business focus to Middle East
A feature of this year’s Queensland Export Week, from 13 to 17 October, will be a number of seminars and events for exporters who want to know more about growing markets for Queensland exports to the Middle East.
Minister for Trade John Mickel said that Trade Queensland was continuing to turn up new exporting opportunities in Middle East markets, and that the Export Week events would provide more information on how to take advantage of these opportunities.
“The Middle East is one of the key markets that have been identified by the Government as having significant untapped potential for Queensland’s export industries, and there are many success stories in this area,” Mr Mickel said.
“The State’s businesses are successfully exporting everything from food products, swimming pools and marine products to green building architecture and services, and aircraft maintenance training into the Middle East region.
“I would highly recommend that our export-ready businesses take advantage of these golden opportunities to have a closer look at export markets in the Middle East during Export Week,” Mr Mickel said.
As part of the Export Week program, Trade Commissioner for the United Arab Emirates, Susan Rae will speak at a seminar on the Gold Coast to highlight Middle East export opportunities in industries including marine products and services construction, infrastructure and food (Wednesday 15 October, 10:00-11:45am).
Bundaberg will also host Trade Commissioner for Saudi Arabia, Hassan Miski who will provide an overview of opportunities in Middle East investment, construction, food and agribusiness (Wednesday 15 October 12:30-2:00pm, including a light lunch).
In addition, a Middle East Export Network Forum in Brisbane is planned for Friday 17 October from 10:00am to 12:30pm for businesses to meet Trade Queensland’s representatives for the Middle East region. Those attending will include Mr Miski and Ms Rae, as well as Special Representative for the Middle East Loftus Harris and Queensland business representatives who have successfully built markets for their products in the Middle East.
