Fraser Coast families to receive support boost

Parents and children in Hervey Bay will continue to access community support services to enhance their safety and well-being.

Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr today announced Community Connect Fraser Coast would receive $228,500 over the next 18 months to offer services to support some of the more vulnerable families in the region.

“Community Connect provides family support and positive parenting programs to help people experiencing difficulties on a personal level or those having trouble engaging with their communities,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“This includes the popular parent aide program, which provides in-home assistance and support to parents of children under eight years old.

“Trained volunteers visit families’ homes to provide support to those who are experiencing personal, social, financial or emotional difficulties.

“The volunteers teach a range of parenting techniques to help parents experiencing financial problems, separation or divorce, or difficulties establishing a household routine.

“The Bligh Government is committed to supporting those most in need, and we are helping create caring communities.”

Member for Hervey Bay Andrew McNamara welcomed the extra funding, saying it was about local people and local services helping local families.

“It is part of the Bligh Government’s Toward Q2 Vision targets and will help create a fairer Queensland — especially for our children,” he said.

“Building safe and strong families is one way we can help overcome disadvantage and make Queensland a better place into the future.”
