Biggenden residents urged to have say on new hospital
Biggenden residents are being urged to have their say on the town’s new hospital as planning on the facility progresses.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson today called for public submissions on the shape of future services at the hospital.
“We want to hear from Biggenden and North Burnett residents about the services they expect from this new hospital, and the best way to deliver them,” he said.
“We announced this new hospital in the 2008-2009 State Budget as part of a $35.5 million three-year Rural Enhancement Program to boost health services in the Wide Bay Health Service District.
“That’s why a Community Advisory Network has been established, allowing residents to play a pivotal role in the hospital’s planning phase.
“Getting the planning process right will ensure the new Biggenden Hospital delivers the best possible services to locals.
“These services will include a 24-hour emergency department, aged care, acute inpatient and outpatient services and facilities for allied and visiting health professionals.
“The Rural Enhancement Program will also fund an expansion of the Mount Perry Health Centre in a further boost to local health services.”
Mr Robertson said a meeting of the Community Advisory Network last week brought residents and health staff together to move the planning process forward.
“This public input will help us to develop a service plan identifying the type and size of facilities needed to service the region’s growing population,” he said.
“Once the service plan is completed, master planning for the hospital works will get underway.”
Residents wanting to contribute to the hospital service plan should contact Brett Waters on 4127 6400.
