Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel

Queensland company Majans, maker of Bhuja mix, is recording strong growth in exports of its savoury snack products.

Minister for Trade John Mickel said that Majans, through their UK distributor, Kikapu, had launched Bhuja mix in 341 Sainsbury’s stores on 29 August.

“The product features in the current edition of Sainsbury’s Magazine, and this successful launch will see Majan export at least a 40 foot container of Bhuja each month for the next twelve months making them a formidable player in the UK deluxe snack sector ,” Mr Mickel said.

“Trade Queensland has provided significant assistance to Majans, with the Trade Queensland Europe Office providing business matching services, as well as arranging meetings with distributors in the UK.

“This assistance helped Majans to secure Kikapu as a distributor. Majans exhibited at the 2007 Anuga Trade Fair in Germany and secured distributors for their snacks in Germany, Denmark and Austria.

“Trade Queensland will continue to work with Majans to help the company expand its product sales in the UK and throughout Europe.

“Majans is already exporting to the USA and has an office in Chicago. They recently supplied Bhuja product for a Queensland networking function hosted in Los Angeles by Peter Beattie, Queensland’s Trade Commissioner for the Americas.

“The company is now in the process of launching 4 new flavours in the USA and is investing in expanding their distribution network to focus on the natural foods market, reflecting their ongoing commitment to providing healthy products that consumers can enjoy.

“A leading retailer of natural foods, Whole Foods, accepted Bhuja mix in April as a healthy choice for its consumers, providing a national distribution opportunity.
“I wish Majans further success in their bid to become a leading manufacturer of healthy snacks foods in North America and the Asia Pacific,” Mr Mickel said.

Sainsbury’s Magazine describes the Bhuja mix product as ‘deliciously exotic and healthy as each mix is cholesterol free, gluten free, high in fibre, low GI and high in protein, making Majans Bhuja the perfect guilt-free snack’.
