Bligh welcomes 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards nominees
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh today congratulated nominees in the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the region’s highest accolades in film, announced today in Brisbane.
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards is an international cultural initiative of the Queensland Government through Queensland Events and a unique collaboration with CNN International, UNESCO and FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers Associations. The awards acclaim films that best reflect their cultural origins and demonstrate cinematic excellence.
Ms Bligh said that the nominees, across nine Award categories and representing 17 countries and areas, were indicative of the extraordinary filmmaking talent and creativity of the Asia-Pacific region.
“I was enormously impressed by the quality and diversity of films celebrated at the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Awards last year and this year the nominees represent the creativity and breadth of talent that exists in the burgeoning film industries of our region,” she said.
“The finalists in the Awards were selected from more than 180 films entered from 43 countries. This is a great response to the Awards from the filmmakers of Asia-Pacific.
“It’s exciting that many of the nominees will be at the gala Awards Ceremony to be held on the Gold Coast on November 11. Their presence further develops links and business opportunities between our local screen industry and the creative industries of Asia-Pacific.”

3. Jury Grand Prize*
The Jury can, at its discretion, present a further award - the Jury Grand Prize.
*Nominees and nominated films from all award categories are eligible for these prizes to be decided by the APSA Jury.

FIAPF - International Federation of Film Producers Associations has endorsed the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards Charter.
The Director General of UNESCO has given his formal endorsement for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards to be conducted under the auspices of UNESCO.
In the run-up to the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, CNN International is to feature the power and reach of Asia-Pacific cinema in four half-hour ‘SCENE BY SCENE’ documentaries airing the weekends of October 4th ,11th, 18th and Nov 1st. The programs, hosted by Anjali Rao, feature the region’s directors, producers and stars talking about the political, religious and cultural challenges they face. A fifth program airs the weekend of November 15th and focuses on the Awards ceremony, including interviews with some of the winners.
