Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Road maintenance contract awarded in south-west
South-west Queensland’s major freight and road corridors received a boost today, with the announcement of a $1.1 million maintenance contract awarded to Main Roads’ construction arm, RoadTek.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Anthony Albanese said the contract would help maintain key roads in the south-west region.
"Preservation and maintenance of Queensland's major highways and road corridors, including key areas such as the south-west, is of importance to both the federal and state governments,” Mr Albanese said.
Queensland Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the funding would be used to address works such as potholes, rough edges, clearing drains, roadside slashing, signage and the repair of road surface failures.
"South-west Queensland roads are subjected to harsh weather and traffic conditions and road surfaces can deteriorate if maintenance is not addressed in a reasonable time period,” Mr Pitt said.
"This funding will help preserve road conditions by addressing minor maintenance issues before they become a cause for real concern.”
