Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Overseas successes and opportunities on show in Export Week
This year’s Export Week, from 13 to 17 October 2008, is set to be bigger and better than ever with activities planned across the State to recognise, promote and assist in growing Queensland’s export businesses and industries.
Minister for Trade John Mickel said that Export Week was organised each year by Trade Queensland to focus on Queensland’s export businesses, growth sectors, and market opportunities.
“A highlight of Export Week will be the presentation of the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards, now in their 19th year. These awards are Queensland’s highest recognition of export achievement,” Mr Mickel said.
“Other activities will provide networking and skills development opportunities, and market information to Queensland’s potential and existing exporters through more than 20 key business events in nine locations across Queensland.
“Export Week 2008 will again highlight the significance of exporting to the Queensland economy and celebrate the success of Queensland exporters, and I invite exporters, and those considering overseas trade as a future option to come and make the most of export week activities,” Mr Mickel said.
Activities planned for Export Week 2008 include:
• The Premier of Queensland Export Awards 2008 (Thursday, 16 October) – Awards gala dinner and presentation.
• Export Showcase 2008 (Tuesday, 14 October) - an exhibition promoting the overseas trade support services and resources provided by the Queensland Government and its export allies. This event will be held in the Legend’s Room at The Gabba from 9am to 2pm.
• Trade Queensland 2008 business breakfast with Bernard Salt (Tuesday, 14 October) – breakfast event featuring a keynote presentation – Beyond the boom: how demographic and generational change will shape the demand for Queensland exports - from leading Australian corporate advisor, demographer, author, columnist and speaker, Bernard Salt.
