PREMIER’S PELOTON PEDALS FOR CHARITY

With only 13 days to go until this year’s Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge, Premier Anna Bligh and the ‘Premier’s Peloton’ went on a training ride this morning.

The Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is the State’s largest bike ride and organisers of the event, Bicycle Queensland are hoping up to 8,000 people will take part in this year’s challenge.

The 100km ride will raise money for the Heart Foundation and Diabetes Australia – Queensland.

“A number of Queensland businesses have joined my peloton and will be pushing the pedals to help these two worthy causes,” Ms Bligh said.

“Cycling is great exercise and this event is a terrific opportunity to raise funds for medical research and health programs for patients affected by heart disease and diabetes.”

About the ride

The Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is on Sunday 12 October.

The riders will leave from Brisbane’s South Bank and then head along the South East Busway for 15 kilometres of traffic-free travel. After leaving the Busway at Eight Mile Plains the riders will use a combination of the ‘Velo 1’ (V1) and service roads adjacent to the M1 before finishing at Southport.

A percentage of the entry fee from each rider will be donated to the Heart Foundation and Diabetes Australia – Queensland. Riders are also encouraged to get sponsored and raise further funds for the beneficiaries.
