Bernard Salt looks into the future for Queensland exports

A leading feature of Queensland Export Week from 13-17 October will be a business-focused event to be addressed by leading Australian corporate advisor, demographer, author, columnist and speaker, Bernard Salt.

Minister for Trade John Mickel, who will host the event, said that early responses from business indicated the popularity of Mr Salt’s professional presentations. He urged businesses to book early to secure their seats.

“Mr Salt will present his predictions along with other information on trends and opportunities for Queensland’s business and exporting future at Trade Queensland’s 2008 business breakfast at the Gabba on 14 October,” Mr Mickel said.

“This Export Week event, sponsored jointly with the Australian Industry Group will bring together Queensland businesses to gain an insight into the State’s future export climate from one of Australia’s most respected market trend commentators.

“Bernard Salt’s presentation entitled ‘Beyond the boom: how demographic and generational change will shape the demand for Queensland exports’ will argue that the transition of baby boomers beyond the workforce in developed nations will alter the dynamics of the global labour market, and discuss how these changes will impact Queensland's export economy.

“Mr Salt will argue, for example, that imminent changes to China's demographic will prompt the West to engage with new low-cost manufacturers that will also demand Queensland coal,” Mr Mickel said.

“The cost to attend the Bernard Salt Beyond the boom breakfast event is $72, or $500 for a table of nine. To book your seat visit www.export.qld.gov.au. Current Queensland exporters and other business people wishing to take part in this or other Export Week activities can also contact Trade Queensland on 3224 4035.

“The Bernard Salt event will be attended by Queensland Trade Commissioners as well as Trade Queensland’s Special Representatives who will be available to offer advice to companies wishing to expand their export sales in Queensland’s key overseas markets,” Mr Mickel said.

The Bernard Salt Beyond the boom breakfast and presentation will be followed by Trade Queensland’s annual Export Showcase, a free export focused event held in the Legends Room at the Gabba, from 9am to 2pm. The Showcase will feature information and displays from Trade Queensland and other government and export service providers, including the Australian Industry Group, Commerce Queensland, Austrade and Trade Queensland’s Overseas Market Development teams.
