The Honourable Warren Pitt

Smoother ride on Diamantina Development Road

Main Roads and the Diamantina Shire Council are working together to deliver a $1.69 million project to seal a section of Diamantina Development Road between Windorah and Bedourie.

The 13-kilometre section, located about 346 kilometres west of Windorah, will be upgraded to a four-metre sealed traffic lane, with one metre sealed shoulders and road widening at floodways.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the project would provide safer and more reliable travel conditions for motorists and improve freight efficiency for heavy vehicles.

"About 36 per cent of traffic using this section of Diamantina Development Road are heavy vehicles so it's important that this road is properly maintained,” Mr Pitt said.

“It is great to see Main Roads working closely with the local council to deliver the project and maintain employment within the region.

“The Diamantina Shire Council has contributed $960,000 to the project and will ensure we have local staff with the right skills, expertise and local knowledge to complete the job.”

Work on the project will start by the end of the month and should be completed in late December, weather permitting.
