Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Safety improvements start along Isis Highway

Upgrade works to the Isis Highway in the Wide Bay-Burnett region are underway to improve safety for motorists and increase the efficiency of freight movement through the area.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the $1.8 million project would resurface a 5.1-kilometre section of the highway between Quarry Hill and Ban Ban Springs.

"Main Roads recognises the importance of maintaining this key regional link," Mr Pitt said.

"The Isis Highway is a vital inland freight route from the east coast through to the North and South Burnett regions and beyond.

"The new surface overlay will help strengthen the road and cater for growing traffic volumes, while reducing the number of potholes in the area.

“The upgrade project will also improve existing line marking, drainage, signage and guide posts, while providing a much smoother surface to drive on."

The Isis Highway upgrade project is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, weather permitting. RoadTek, Main Roads’ construction arm, has been awarded the contract to carry out the project.
