The Honourable Neil Roberts
Minister celebrates firefighters’ long-service
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts has paid tribute to long-serving firefighters at a presentation in Gayndah.
Mr Roberts said Stanley Oppermann and Ray Berthelsen had both made exceptional contributions to their local communities.
“Mr Oppermann today received the 1st and 2nd Clasp to the National Medal, symbolising 38 years of service,” Mr Roberts said.
“Mr Oppermann is the Fire Warden and Second Officer at Binjour Rural Fire Brigade, beginning his service in 1970 – when The Beatles were still together.
Mr Berthelsen is Chairperson and First officer of the Glenrae Rural Fire Brigade and was today awarded the National medal with the 1st Clasp for 27 years’ service.
“Both gentlemen have sacrificed thousands of hours to help protect the people and property of their local areas.
“Today’s medal ceremony is just a small token of the State Government’s appreciation of their efforts.
“I’d like pay tribute to all Rural Fire Brigade members, emergency services volunteers and personnel whose selflessness, skill and professionalism provides communities across Queensland a sense of reassurance in times of need.”
