The Honourable John Mickel
Queensland business group to take first-hand look at export opportunities in Thailand
The newly formed Queensland Thailand Business Partnership (QTBP) group is to undertake its first trade mission to Thailand from 22 to 27 September 2008.
Minister for Trade John Mickel congratulated the QTBP on working quickly to bring about this inaugural Thailand visit with the aim of establishing new business relationships between Queensland and Thailand.
“Even as a relatively new organisation, the QTBP is proving itself a valuable tool for Queensland exporters and investors who want to do business with our friends in Thailand,” Mr Mickel said.
“The QTBP mission is being sponsored by the Royal Thai Embassy and led by the Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Bandhit Sotipalalit. The group will also be accompanied in-market by Ms Kundhinee Aksornwong from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has received strong support from Royal Thai Consul-General to Queensland, Mr Bill Dunn.
“Mr Bob Quinn, Queensland’s Special Representative for Thailand, will act as Trade Queensland’s representative on the mission and will make use of the experience to prepare him to lead future trade missions into this important market,” Mr Mickel said.
QTBP members, Mr John Hocken (CEO, W2 Power), Mr Graham Hart AM (Chairman, GBG Wastewater Management), Mr David Bray (Technical Director, Darwalla Milling Co.), Mr Keith Hamburger AM (Managing Director, Salty Boats), Mr Rob McIntosh (CEO, Lodehaul), Mr Jim Collins (District Manager, CANEGROWERS),and Mr Rodney Levien (Managing Director, Ys Clothing Company) will also participate in the mission.
Mr Mickel said that the itinerary for the trade mission had been organised by the Board of Investment in Thailand with support from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Meetings have been scheduled with relevant stakeholders in specific areas of interest for the group including renewable energy, integrated agribusiness, manufacturing (clothing and boat building in particular), and wastewater treatment,” Mr Mickel said.
“The Government, through Trade Queensland, looks forward to providing ongoing support for the Queensland Thailand Business Partnership, and helping them to establish long term, successful business relationships in Thailand,’ he said.
