MINISTER WALLACE CONGRATULATES OLYMPIC MEDALLIST
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace congratulated Rockhampton staff member Kylie Cronk who today took part in the official Welcome Home Parade for Olympic athletes, after returning home with a bronze medal from the Beijing Olympic Games.
The water services technical officer was making her Olympic debut at the Games with the Australian women’s softball team.
Minister Wallace congratulated Ms Cronk on both making the Australian women’s Olympic softball team and returning home with a bronze medal.
“It was a very proud moment for all Australians watching our athletes compete at the Olympic Games in Beijing, and even more proud to watch one of our own staff wearing the green and gold in the softball competition,’’ Mr Wallace said.
“Achieving at this level of sport requires great dedication and commitment while making sacrifices along the way. I congratulate Kylie on successfully balancing her sporting dreams and work commitments with NRW.’’
Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten also congratulated Ms Cronk and said she was a great role model for the Rockhampton community.
“Through Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland the Bligh Government is promoting a Healthy Queensland and healthy lifestyle changes,” Mr Schwarten said.
“Kylie and all our Olympic champions are setting a great example for the community by promoting exercise and a more active lifestyle.
“The Rockhampton community is extremely proud of Kylie and her achievements in sport.”
Minister Wallace said although softball had not been included in the London 2012 Olympic Games program he wished Ms Cronk all the best for her future Australian softball representative honours.
Australia’s softball team suffered a 4-3 loss to Japan in a marathon 12-innings semi-final – narrowly missing out on their chance to play-off for the gold medal.
Japan went on to win the gold medal with a shock win over the USA in the gold medal final.
