Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Energy-wise Gold Coast businesses invited to attend information session
Gold Coast businesses joining the Queensland Government’s Smart Energy Savings Program are invited to attend an information session next week (22 September).
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said the program, to take effect from July 1 2009, encourages medium-to-large commercial energy users to conserve energy.
“The Bligh Government is serious about tackling climate change and we are working with industry to improve efficiencies in the use of electricity and gas,” Mr Wilson said.
Mr Wilson said the program requires businesses to undertake an independent energy audit to calculate their energy consumption and provide a strategy to reduce that consumption.
“We can all play a role in slowing the march of climate change. This program will help these businesses improve their energy efficiency and productivity in their day-to-day operations.”
The program applies to companies using between 100 and 500 terajoules of energy each year, or the equivalent to the energy consumption of around 2,700 households.
Information sessions for affected businesses will be held across Queensland over the next few weeks.
Session participants will be briefed on all aspects of the program, including the energy audits and energy savings plans.
Mr Wilson said that by being energy-wise, participating companies could achieve significant energy and cost savings.
“Smart businesses know that they need to prepare for a carbon constrained future and reduce their carbon risk and energy costs,” he said.
The Gold Coast session will be held at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort, starting at 9.30 am.
