Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
SAFE entry for Queensland exports to Chile
The ability of Queensland’s export companies to efficiently develop and enter markets in Latin America will increase significantly with the opening of a new SAFE Initiative facility in Santiago, Chile.
Minister for Trade John Mickel said the SAFE Initiative was itself a Queensland export venture and would provide other Queensland exporters security and peace of mind when they begin exporting to Chile.
“As the name suggests, the SAFE Initiative will allow Queensland exporters to more safely enter the Chilean market, with support and access to vital exporting resources. SAFE allows exporters to place their products directly into an Australian-managed facility in this burgeoning Latin American market.
“I have no doubt the SAFE approach of combining Trade Queensland’s existing networking capacity with export support facilities and expertise in-market will assist Queensland companies as they do the hard yards to break into this new growth market.
“Using the SAFE Initiative facilities in Chile will allow exporters to gain local market access for their product, without paying the high cost or bearing the uncertainty of a local distributor or trade show.
“SAFE will provide product showroom facilities, temporary storage, translation and interpreter services, office facilities and meeting rooms, car parking, multi media equipment, telephone, fax and email, food service, follow up calls and site visit services to better enable our State’s exporters to do business,” Mr Mickel said.
SAFE’s Managing Director, Mark Krohn said that his business was proving successful in other markets, and that he was confident of success in Chile.
“It’s a relatively simple formula. We use Trade Queensland’s network and its capacity within the market, add the passion of the individual exporter, combine this with the right product and potential customer in a comfortable environment designed for effective communication, and we have the right mix to maximise export sales into that market.
“Our new SAFE Initiative facility is located just 20 minutes from both Santiago’s CBD and the International airport. It has 300 plus square metres of warehouse for product including forklift and pallet racking and, importantly, a 24-hour security service.
“We learned of the potential in Chile when we took part in Trade Queensland’s Latin America Mining Initiative and Trade Queensland continues assisting us in our set-up phase,” Mr Krohn said.
Trade Queensland’s Commissioner for the Americas, Peter Beattie will attend an official opening of the new SAFE Initiative premises in Santiago on Friday 3 October 2008
