Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Power boost for eastern suburbs
Energex is investing more than $10 million on a new substation for Holland Park East, Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said today.
Minister Wilson, who has been in the electorate of Chatsworth yesterday (Sunday) and today with the Premier, all her Ministers and heads of departments for the Bligh Government’s Community Cabinet Meeting, said the new substation would meet the demand for electricity in the fast-growing eastern suburb now, and well into the future.
“Good governments plan for the future. We’re taking action now and securing the future for the people who live and work here by giving them a secure and reliable electricity supply,” Mr Wilson said.
Minister Wilson said the new substation would be equipped with two low-noise transformers.
“The substation is fully remote controlled and that will help field crews restore power more quickly during the summer storm season,” he said.
New modular buildings are now on site and the new substation is expected to be up and running early next year.
Minister Wilson said the new substation would provide a big power boost for homes and businesses in Greenslopes, Chatsworth and Mt Gravatt.
“We’re building now so that we meet the power needs of the future,” Mr Wilson said.
The Minister said that in the last financial year, Energex had invested more than $26 million on power works in Chatsworth and surrounding electorates.
Member for Chatsworth, Chris Bombolas added that major reinforcement works are underway at the Camp Hill substation and are due to be completed next month.
“These works will ensure that Energex continues to deliver a reliable and secure electricity supply to our community,” Mr Bombolas said.
“We’re heading towards the summer storm season so it’s reassuring to know that our power suppliers have their eye on the ball.
“Not only are we getting a boost to supplies, Energex workers are also ready to tackle whatever nature throws at the electricity network,” Mr Bombolas said.
