Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Traffic conditions change along Mackay–Bucasia Road
Motorists can expect several changes in traffic conditions as work progresses on the $17 million Mackay–Bucasia Road duplication project.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said laying of the western carriageway on the Mackay–Bucasia Road duplication project was almost complete.
"In coming weeks, the approaches to the rail overpass will be completed and sealing and further asphalt works will take place between Phillip Street and Baxter Drive," Mr Pitt said.
"Traffic will be diverted on to the new western carriageway between Holts Road and Habana Road to allow widening works on the new eastern carriageway of Mackay–Bucasia Road, between Beaconsfield Road and Golflinks Road/Habana Road."
Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said traffic would be diverted to the new carriageway between the rail overpass and Holts Road as work progressed.
"The next stage of the project requires Beaconsfield Road to be temporarily closed for around six weeks so that work can begin on the Beaconsfield intersection," she said.
"Motorists can use either Golflinks Road or Holts Road as alternatives when accessing Mackay–Bucasia Road from the Beaconsfield area during the closure."
Ms Jarratt said motorists would need to be aware of new traffic conditions when Beaconsfield Road was re-opened.
"A central median strip will be situated along Mackay–Bucasia Road opposite the Beaconsfield Road intersection," she said.
"Motorists will be permitted to perform only left-in and left-out turns at this intersection, which will improve traffic flow and safety."
Changed traffic arrangements at the entrance to the Mackay Golf Course will also come into effect. The $17 million project is being undertaken by Vassallo Constructions and is due for completion in early 2009, weather permitting.
