Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts

Discover QAS during Ambulance Week

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts is urging all Queenslanders to take the opportunity to recognise the outstanding work of the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) during Ambulance Week 2008 (12 – 19 September).

Mr Roberts said Ambulance Week was a time to celebrate the work of all ambulance officers and volunteers who go beyond the call of duty to save lives.

“Ambulance Week is very much about recognising the unique nature of ambulance work –whether its our frontline paramedics or our support staff, educators and Local Ambulance Committee volunteers,” Mr Roberts said.

“Ambulance Week kicks off tomorrow when I join QAS staff at a memorial service to remember colleagues who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“On Sunday, the Triple Zero (000) Community Education Campaign will be launched, to encourage the responsible use of Triple Zero (000) and ambulance services.

“In addition, a number of events will be held over the coming week, including awards ceremonies across our seven regions to honour our best of the best.”

QAS Commissioner David Melville said during Ambulance Week, the QAS would also be urging Queenslanders to discover how they can protect loved ones and help save them in an emergency.

“You don’t have to meet your local paramedics by accident,” Mr Melville said.

“The QAS does a lot more than simply transport sick and injured people to hospital and we want to take advantage of Ambulance Week to highlight what we can do for you.”

The QAS offers a range of community services and training including first aid and CPR training, a baby capsule hire service and child restraint checks for all ages.
