The Honourable Warren Pitt

Sarina road safety improves with flick of switch

Main Roads will switch on new traffic signals this week to improve safety on the Bruce Highway at Sarina

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the $500,000 project had seen traffic lights installed at the Bruce Highway and Anzac Street intersection in Sarina.

"This is a busy intersection with more than 11,000 vehicles travelling through this section of the Bruce Highway in Sarina every day," Mr Pitt said.

"Main Roads reviewed the Anzac Street/Bruce Highway intersection in consultation with the former Sarina Shire Council Traffic Advisory Committee following suggestions by local businesses."

Mr Pitt said the new traffic signals in Sarina were an example of Main Roads responding to community concerns.

"The installation of traffic signals will significantly improve access from side roads for motorists and, importantly, they will improve safety for pedestrians," Mr Pitt said.

"Bitumen resurfacing associated with the works has also been completed between the Sarina Beach Road turn-off and Johnson Street.

"RoadTek, Main Roads’ construction arm, completed the project in about six weeks."

Main Roads thanks motorists and residents for their patience throughout this project and asks the community to take notice of the changed traffic conditions when the lights are switched on later this week.
