Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Main Roads delivering a safer D'Aguilar Highway
The D'Aguilar Highway will receive a $6.3 million upgrade as part of the Queensland Government's continued commitment to improving safety and efficiency between Caboolture and Kilcoy.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today announced the awarding of a contract to Neumann Contractors to rehabilitate and widen the highway between Mary Smokes Road and Arnolds Road North, including an upgrade of the Villeneuve Road intersection.
"The Queensland Government is committed to improving the safety and efficiency of this key route and this is the latest in a number of projects that will do so," Mr Pitt said.
"The community has expressed its interest in this work being undertaken and the upgrade will enhance driving conditions for almost 6000 vehicles that use this section of the D'Aguilar Highway each day.
"About 13 per cent of those are commercial vehicles, which highlights the highway's importance to the region's economy."
Mr Pitt said the upgrade would complement already completed upgrades on either side of the 3.7km section.
"In addition to rehabilitation and the work at Villeneuve Road, the highway will be widened to include two 3.5-metre lanes with 2m shoulders on either side," Mr Pitt said.
"Similar upgrades have also successfully been completed east and west of this section, where flood immunity has been improved with the replacement of old timber bridges."
Work on the upgrade will start next week and, with favourable weather conditions, is expected to be completed by April 2009.
Mr Pitt also announced the D'Aguilar Highway would be among 110km of state-controlled roads to benefit from a maintenance contract awarded to the Somerset Regional Council.
The $781,000 contract will provide for road and minor culvert repairs, general roadside maintenance and installation of signage.
“Repairing defects and installing signage on roads is an important safety measure and makes travelling roads a more enjoyable experience for motorists," Mr Pitt said.
"Some key roads will be maintained as a result of this contract, including the D’Aguilar Highway, Esk–Kilcoy Road and Kilcoy–Murgon Road."
Motorists are urged to drive to posted speed limits and obey the directions of road signage and traffic controllers around roadworks. For more information on the upgrade, please call Main Roads on (07) 5482 0333.
